Not even a 55-21 thumping by Valencia on Saturday night could dampen the spirits of Saugus Coach Ron Hilton, who wouldn’t allow the Division III semifinal loss to overshadow the best season in the school’s 25-year history.

“We had a tremendous year,” Hilton said. “Our kids are 10-3 and I’m thrilled.”

With quarterback David Parker leading the way, Saugus set numerous records this season in reaching its first semifinal.

Parker, who threw for 3,203 yards and 42 touchdowns, broke every passing record. He set career marks with 5,343 yards and 62 touchdowns passing in two seasons.

Multi-talented receiver Nathan Steele set a school record by scoring 140 points.

Steele scored a team-high 15 touchdowns and converted 47 of 59 extra-point kicks and made one field goal.

Nordhoff set or matched three school records in its 41-27 victory over top-seeded Cathedral in a Division XI semifinal Friday night. But two of the records will stay in the same family.

Running back Jessie Hawkins rushed for 304 yards, eclipsing the previous mark set by half-brother Josh, who gained 271 yards in 1994. Jessie’s five touchdowns ties Josh’s mark.

Wide receiver Scott Drew set a season record with 623 yards receiving.
