Four Area Players on All-City Team

Juniors Nancy Ariza and Stephanie Cisneros of Sylmar High were selected to the All-City girls’ volleyball team.

Ariza and Cisneros helped Sylmar reach the City Championship match.

Youssra Marjoua of Poly and Margot Wallace of Van Nuys also were selected to the team.

Jennifer Badran-Grycan and and Lauren Carter of Palisades were selected co-players of the year.

TENNIS

* Stephen Amritraj of Crespi High and Anand Amritraj advanced to the title match of the U.S. National Father-Son Championships before losing last weekend at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club in San Diego.

The Amritrajes, defending champions, lost to Dick Leach and his son Rick, 6-3, 6-3, in the final after beating Brian Cheney and son Andrew in the semifinals.

Stephen Amritraj teamed with K.C. Corkery of Manhattan Beach to win another title recently.

Amritraj and Corkery defeated Drew Hoskins of Rossmoor and Derrick Bauer of Marina del Rey, 6-1, 7-5, to win the boys’ 16 division doubles title at the U.S. National Indoor Championships in Boston two weeks ago. Amritraj also won the back-draw of the tournament, placing him seventh in singles competition.

* Bob Bryan reached the quarterfinals of the Burbank Challenger tournament with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Werner Eschauer of Austria at the Burbank Tennis Center on Wednesday.

His twin brother, Mike, advanced to the second round with a 6-4, 6-4 victory Tuesday over No. 2-seeded Ronald Agenor of Haiti.

The Bryans, from Camarillo, also won in doubles, defeating Dougal Williams and Steve Berg, 6-3, 6-3.
