A Van Nuys man was arrested Thursday morning after assaulting a repossession agent who attempted to tow away his car, police said. The suspect’s wife was arrested on suspicion of concealing him after the alleged attack.

Larry Crawford, 40, apparently became enraged when he saw his Ford Expedition being towed away, said Los Angeles Police Officer Justin Bergmann. Crawford stood in the street to block the tow truck’s path, smashed the truck’s back window and hit the driver with a flashlight, Bergmann said.

“The driver, in fear of what was going on, released the car,” the officer said.

Crawford then locked himself inside his home in the 6500 block of Valjean Avenue, ignoring officers’ calls for several minutes, Bergmann said. Crawford also sent three Rottweiler dogs into the yard to deter officers, Bergmann said.

Police entered the home and arrested Crawford only after his wife, Linda Romero, came out to talk with officers.

Crawford will face carjacking, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon charges, and Romero will face charges of concealing and aiding a suspect, police said. The repossession agent suffered minor injuries.
