Basketball--The athlete of the week profile of Alex Gientke of Ventura High should have stated that Kristine Gleisberg, a senior forward for the Cougars, has committed to Oregon State.

SEASON AT A GLANCE: Fockaert became the first quarterback from the region in more than 20 years to lead his team to three consecutive Southern Section championships. He passed for 1,675 yards and 23 touchdowns, with only seven interceptions in more than 200 attempts. Often overshadowed by sophomore running back Curtis Brown, Fockaert took over in the playoffs, leading an offense that scored 182 points in four games. Also a defensive back, he intercepted four passes in the playoffs.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Fockaert completed 14 of 18 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Spirits to a 43-6 rout of Kilpatrick in the Division XII final.

CAREER AT A GLANCE: A 5-foot-9 guard who has committed to Santa Clara, Gientke was a All-Ventura County player as a junior and a second-team member as a sophomore. She averaged 14.5 points per game both seasons, teaming with forward Kristine Gleisberg, who is now at Oregon State, to form the cornerstone of one of the region’s top programs.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Gientke was selected most valuable player in the Buena tournament after leading the Cougars to the championship. She averaged 21.5 points in four games, including 23 points in a 60-57 upset of Buena, ranked No. 7 in the nation, in the final. She scored 16 points in the second half, when Ventura rallied from a 37-25 deficit.
