De La Rosa Leads Saddleback’s Overtime Victory Over Santiago

Denise De La Rosa had 26 points and 19 rebounds to lead Saddleback to a 65-61 overtime victory over Santiago in pool play of the La Quinta girls’ basketball tournament Thursday.

De La Rosa made a two-pointer with a minute left in the fourth quarter to tie the score, 51-51, and send the game into overtime.

De La Rosa fouled out in the extra period, but Lorena Adame (15 points) stepped up and scored six points in overtime to lead the Roadrunners, who led by eight points with 1 1/2 minutes left in overtime.

Stephanie Reupena scored 32 points and Jasmine Buenrostro had eight for Santiago (5-4), which was held to three points in the fourth quarter.

Alex Chavez scored 17 points for Saddleback (6-2). The Roadrunners, who are 3-0 in the tournament, play Norwalk Glenn tonight at 7:30 for the championship.

In another tournament game:

Savanna 39, La Quinta 29--Reanita Starr scored 16 points, 12 during Savanna’s 15-4 fourth-quarter run. The Rebels (5-3) play University tonight at 6 for third place.

In the Artesia tournament:

No. 7 Rosary 54, Downey Warren 33--Jen Farner had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Bridget O’Connell had 13 points and eight rebounds for Rosary (6-1), which plays Diamond Bar on Saturday in the second round.

In the Mission Viejo tournament:

Estancia 53, Santa Ana 31--Lauren Cassity scored 11 of her 20 points in the third quarter as Estancia outscored Santa Ana, 18-8, to take a 15-point lead. Estancia (7-1) advanced to Saturday’s championship game against the winner of today’s game between Sonora and Bonita Vista.

In the Riverside La Sierra Tournament:

Escondido 45, Orangewood Academy 38--Junior Celeste Warriner scored 16 points and sophomore Tiffany Nasaralla had 15 points for Orangewood (2-4).

In the San Clemente tournament:

No. 4 Foothill 78, No. 5 Dana Hills 24--Kelsi Sousa had 18 points and Kristen Mann had 17 for Foothill (4-2), which plays Cerritos Saturday at 6 p.m. in pool play. Foothill went on a 27-8 run to start the game and held the Dolphins to two points in the final quarter.

No. 5 San Clemente 86, Cerritos 54--Kimberly Noble had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Whitney Jones had 19 points for San Clemente (6-0), which went on a 26-10 run to start the game. Cerritos is 3-4.

In nonleague games:

El Modena 50, El Dorado 45--Lindsey Galasso scored 17 points and Cammy Danciu had 16 points to lead visiting El Modena.

Melissa Jacob led El Dorado (6-4) with 15 points.

Fountain Valley 66, Fullerton 26--Amy Omae had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals for Fountain Valley (4-3). Laura Williams scored 15 points to lead the visiting Barons.

Orange 33, Bolsa Grande 23--Orange outscored visiting Bolsa Grande, 21-14, in the second half. Debby Baeder scored 13 points for Bolsa Grande (1-6).

Orange Lutheran 58, Villa Park 20--Junior Monica Schulte scored nine points and junior Leah Cariker had six points and seven rebounds to lead host Orange Lutheran (4-3).

St. Margaret’s 48, Laguna Beach 34--Monique Kettler had 21 points, 21 rebounds and five steals for host St. Margaret’s (2-5).
