Colorado Rockie second baseman Mike Lansing was struck across the head with a shotgun during a mugging in which he and his wife were robbed of an estimated $40,000 in property and cash early Sunday in downtown West Palm Beach, Fla.
Police said Lansing and his wife were robbed of cash and jewelry, including two $17,000 watches.
Palm Beach police Lt. Pat Maney said the couple was walking through a scenic downtown park on the way to their car when two men approached pointing a shotgun.
Kathlyn Lansing dropped to the ground while her husband handed over their Rolex watches, cell phone, money and her purse. The watches were worth at least $17,000 each, according police reports.
The Lansings, who are part-time Palm Beach Gardens residents, were not seriously hurt, but during the confrontation, Lansing was struck across the head with the shotgun, which caused some cuts, Maney said.
