The premier girls’ soccer event in Southern California, the 10th annual Excalibur tournament, begins today at Foothill High.

The three-day, 32-team tournament includes four Southern Section defending champions, one runner-up and eight of the county’s top 10 teams.

The field is bracketed so teams will face opponents for the first time this season, at least until the semifinals.

Top-ranked Mission Viejo will be playing, as will No. 2 Capistrano Valley, the tournament’s defending champion; No. 3 Santa Margarita; No. 4 Woodbridge, No. 6 San Clemente; No. 7 Esperanza; No. 8 Edison, and No. 9 Marina.

Semifinals begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by the final at 2:10 p.m.
