Titans Take Their Slump Out on Fresno State

Cal State Fullerton used 11 hits and 12 walks to produce a 15-7 victory over Fresno State in a nonconference baseball game Friday at Cal State Fullerton.

Jeff Gates had two hits and three runs batted in and David Bacani and Rod Perry each scored twice and had two RBIs for the Titans, who stopped a three-game losing streak.

Adam Johnson gave up five hits and three runs in seven innings and struck out 11 with no walks to earn the victory for Fullerton (2-3).

Fresno State starter Casey Rowe walked five and hit one batter before he was removed. Fullerton took a 5-1 lead after one inning. Fresno State is 5-4.

In other nonconference baseball games:

Chapman 20, Cal State Hayward 8--Pat Stevens, who had seven RBIs, singled, tripled and hit a grand slam for Chapman (1-0), which scored six runs in the first and 12 in the fifth. Winning pitcher Jeff Blitstein, a senior, gave up two unearned runs on five hits and struck out three in five innings.

UC San Diego 7, Concordia 1--Concordia (5-3-1) scored its only run in the fifth inning when Matt Canada doubled to right scoring Brandon Reimer.

In Big West Conference women’s basketball:

North Texas 92, Cal State Fullerton 57--Empress Drane had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Jalie Mitchell had 19 points for visiting North Texas (16-6, 8-2), which held Fullerton to 31% shooting from the field. Andrea Thieme had 13 points for Fullerton (3-18, 1-9).

In Paradise Classic softball games in Honolulu:

CS Fullerton splits--The Titans (2-1) scored five unearned runs in a 5-3 victory over Loyola Marymount. Dara Marzolo had two hits for Fullerton.

Earlier Friday, Fullerton lost to Oregon State, 6-2. Titan freshman pitcher Christy Robitaille gave up only two earned runs and struck out four against the Beavers (3-1).
