Titans Take Advantage to Defeat Fresno St.

The Cal State Fullerton baseball team took advantage of early Fresno State mistakes and held on for a 4-3 victory Saturday night at Titan Field.

The Titans (3-3) scored twice in the third inning on two errors and a balk to take a 3-2 lead. After Fullerton made it 4-2 in the sixth, Fresno State (5-5) scored in the eighth inning on a bases-loaded double play. Titan reliever Kirk Saarloos forced a groundout to end the rally.

Jordan DeJong (1-0) struck out seven in 5 1/3 innings. Sarloos got the save. Reed Johnson had two hits and scored twice for the Titans.

In other nonconference baseball games:

Chapman 6-8, Whitworth 5-7--Freshman Pat Stevens hit the game-winning three-run homer in the seventh inning for Chapman in the first game of a doubleheader.

Adam Olow singled, doubled, homered, and had three RBIs for Chapman (3-0).

Matt Armitage singled, doubled twice, homered, and drove in four runs for Whitworth (0-2).

In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:

Biola 6-11, Southern California College 1-4--Visiting SCC (1-5, 0-4) was swept by the Eagles (7-1-2, 3-0). Kevin Candelaria led SCC with three hits.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:

Biola 77, Southern California College 61--Jabari Simmons had a game-high 22 points and Dennis Keane had 17 for visiting SCC (10-18, 4-6). Biola is 23-3, 9-1.

Concordia 95, Fresno Pacific 77--Josh Giles had 32 points, including a perfect 13 for 13 on free throws, for Concordia (16-12, 5-5). Harald Hofmann had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Joel Burgess had 15 points for the Eagles, who outscored Fresno Pacific by 22 points in the first half.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Concordia 68, Fresno Pacific 65--Jaime Gast scored 24 for Concordia (14-9, 7-3), which shot 61.9% from the field.

Pricilla Bendik had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles.

Southern California College 69, Biola 58--Amee Pina scored 26 points, making all five of her three-point shots and all 11 of her free throws for SCC (20-7, 8-2).

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Cal Baptist 71, Hope International 40--Holly Goodridge scored a game-high 21 points for visiting Hope International (6-15). Grace Smart and Kati Sico each had 17 for Cal Baptist (8-19).

In the Paradise softball classic:

Cal State Fullerton 6, Baylor 2--Wendi Griffin went four for four and Stacy Pierson hit a two-run homer for the Titans (3-1), who scored four runs in the sixth inning. Baylor is also 3-1.

In nonconference softball:

San Diego 3-3, Concordia 1-0--Crystal Rosenthal had two hits in the first game for Concordia (0-4). San Diego is 7-1.

In Big West Conference women’s tennis:

UC Irvine 9, CS Fullerton 0--Natalie Exon won in singles, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with Nickole Kabe for an 8-2 doubles victory for UC Irvine (1-4, 1-0). CS Fullerton is 3-3, 1-1.
