St. John’s Dominates Providence
It has been no contest when No. 10 St. John’s has played Providence this season.
The Red Storm beat the Friars, 104-70, Monday night at New York, its second win against Providence this year by at least 27 points.
“They are very hard to play. They have so many answers,” first-year Providence Coach Tim Welsh said. “For us to play well we have to use the whole floor and run. They play our game a lot better than us.”
Lavor Postell had 17 points to lead St. John’s, 21-6 overall and 12-3 in the Big East. The Red Storm had five double-figure scorers.
Providence (14-11, 7-8) lost to St. John’s, 84-57, on Jan. 20.
No. 18 College of Charleston 74, East Tennessee State 55--Jody Lumpkin had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cougars at Johnson City, Tenn.
Charleston (23-2, 15-0) won their 21st straight game and moved within one victory of a perfect regular season in the Southern Conference.
Lumpkin, a sophomore center on a team featuring seven seniors, was dominant inside against the smaller Buccaneers (16-9, 9-6). He made nine of 11 shots in posting his second double-double in a row.
Oklahoma 69, No. 22 Missouri 57--Eduardo Najera had 20 points and 15 rebounds as the Sooners knocked off the Tigers at Columbia, Mo.
Missouri (18-6, 9-4), the Big 12’s only ranked team, led 54-47 after John Woods’ three-point shot with 5:45 left.
The Tigers then went 4:14 before they scored again. Oklahoma (19-7, 10-3) scored 14 points in that time, six by Najera.
WOMEN
No. 25 Alabama 75, Florida 73--Dominique Canty scored 23 points and made a driving layup with two seconds to play to lead the Crimson Tide (16-6, 6-6) in Southeastern Conference game at Gainesville, Fla.
The Gators (18-10, 6-6) had a late run to tie the score at 73-73 with 23 seconds.
