SEASON AT A GLANCE: The 6-foot-9 center is one of the main reasons the Pioneers (25-2) have been the top team in the region. The New Mexico-bound Berumen, averaging 24.7 points and 11.4 rebounds a game, has been practically unstoppable down low and led Simi Valley to a 12-0 record in the Marmonte League.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: One day after seeing a doctor for a knee injury, Berumen set a school record with 53 points against Agoura. “He needs to see that doctor more often,” quipped Coach Dean Bradshaw. Berumen, who also had 24 rebounds and four assists against Agoura, scored 15 points in a victory over Thousand Oaks earlier in the week.
GIRLS
Sinnamonn Garrett
SCHOOL: Crescenta Valley
YEAR: Junior
SPORT: Basketball
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Garrett has averaged 18.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in leading the Falcons to a share of their fourth consecutive Pacific League title. The 5-foot-10 forward often is called upon to handle the ball against pressure defenses.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Garrett had 17 points and 10 rebounds against Arcadia, then collected 29 points and 10 rebounds in a 47-45 victory over Pasadena that clinched a share of the league championship.
