‘Doris Duke,’ Dramas Saluting Black History Month Top Lineup

It’s another big night at the movies on Sunday with CBS’ two-part drama on the late heiress Doris Duke, while Showtime and TNT present dramas celebrating Black History Month.

Sidney Poitier and his daughter Sydney Tamiia Poitier star in Showtime’s “Free of Eden,” Sunday at 8 p.m. The drama deals with the relationship between a teacher-turned-businessman and a young woman who becomes his pupil.

Andre Braugher and Rip Torn star in “Passing Glory,” Sunday at 8, 10 p.m. and midnight on TNT. Braugher plays a priest who organizes a basketball game between a white team and a black team.

Lauren Bacall and Richard Chamberlain star in CBS’ four-hour drama “Too Rich: The Secret Life of Doris Duke,” Sunday at 9 p.m. The film focuses on the world’s richest woman and how her butler schemed to become executor of her estate. The conclusion will be broadcast Tuesday at 9 p.m.

Julie Bowen headlines the UPN thriller “The Last Man on Planet Earth,” tonight at 8.

Series

John Ritter plays a down-and-out photographer who is given a second chance on a fashion shoot on NBC’s “Veronica’s Closet,” tonight at 9:30.

George Clooney bids adieu to “ER” after five seasons, tonight at 10 on NBC.

Michelle Phillips is a guest on “Providence,” Friday at 8 p.m. on NBC, as the new woman in the life of Syd’s father.

TV’s favorite odd couple, Tony Randall and Jack Klugman, play feuding brothers-in-law on ABC’s “Brother’s Keeper,” Friday at 9:30 p.m.

Rappers Coolio and Tone-Loc are guests on CBS’ “Early Edition,” Saturday at 8 p.m.

The Cartoon Networks presents an eight-hour marathon of “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” Sunday at noon. The episodes feature 32 tunes performed by Alvin, Theodore, Simon and David Seville.

Before the conclusion of “Storm of the Century” at 9 p.m., ABC presents “World’s Deadliest Storms,” tonight at 8.
