Titans Hit Jackpot in Vegas, 21-14
Cal State Fullerton used 16 hits, seven walks, six hit batsmen and three Nevada Las Vegas errors to pound out a 21-14 victory in a nonconference baseball game Friday in Las Vegas.
First baseman Chris Beck had four doubles, five runs batted in and four runs scored for Fullerton, which led, 10-1, after 1 1/2 innings and 17-6 after 3 1/2 innings.
Reed Johnson, who was hit by a pitch three times, had three RBIs and three runs scored and Spencer Oborn also had three RBIs for the Titans. David Bacani hit his first home run for Fullerton (6-3).
Ruben Jurado (1-0) pitched the final five innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs to get the victory.
Ryan Ludwick had three hits, including a home run, and Tony DeMarco had three RBIs for the Rebels (3-7).
In Big West Conference women’s basketball:
Pacific 78, Cal State Fullerton 65--Eden Palacio scored 16 points and Sarah Yarbrough had 14 points and 10 rebounds for visiting Pacific (11-12, 7-5). Andrea Thieme had 19 points and seven assists for Fullerton (3-20, 1-11).
Long Beach State 69, UC Irvine 57--Rhonda Smith had 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots for visiting Long Beach (14-9, 9-4). Kirsten Cappel had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Irvine (10-13, 6-6).
In Big West Conference men’s tennis:
USC 6, UC Irvine 1--Chris Ma defeated Nicholas Rainey, 6-4, 6-1, for UCI’s only victory in singles. Brett Lucas and Andrew Cheney won in doubles, 8-6, for the visiting Anteaters (6-1). USC is 8-1.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Southern California College 6, Western New Mexico 3--The Vanguards won their first four singles matches in straight sets. Lindsay Doyal and Michele Tamplin teamed up for an 8-2 victory in doubles for host SCC (2-0).
In the San Diego State softball tournament:
CS Fullerton 7, Santa Clara 4--Dara Marzolo hit a two-run double in the fourth inning and Stephanie Little hit a fifth-inning home run for the Titans (5-3).
In a nonconference doubleheader:
UC San Diego 3-0, Southern California College 2-1--UCSD (3-1) capitalized on three unearned runs in the second inning of the first game after falling behind, 2-0. Gina Liebengood pitched a one-hit shutout for SCC (6-3) in the second game.
