Birmingham 1, Roosevelt 0--Adonay Jovel scored off a cross by Bobby Pouya three minutes before halftime and the host Patriots (11-1-4) advanced to play a quarterfinal at Banning on Friday.

Roosevelt, seeded ninth, finished 12-4-1.

“We’re always trying to get crosses over and lots of people in the box,” Birmingham captain John Ortega said.

However, eighth-seeded Birmingham was dealt a blow when standout stopper Mike Erush injured an ankle late in the game.

Jose Freire, Birmingham’s coach, said Erush is out for the season. Erush’s backup, Mario Osario, had an appendectomy last week and also is out.

Monroe 2, Jefferson 1--Jose Gomez scored the winning goal with 10 minutes to play on an assist from Nicholas Mendez at fifth-seeded Jefferson.

Danny Corrales scored to pull 12th-seeded Monroe (11-3-2) into a 1-1 tie with 15 minutes to play.

Chatsworth at El Camino Real--The game was postponed until today when referees did not show. David Hussey, El Camino Real’s coach, said he will ask City Section officials to postpone the quarterfinal game on Friday between Belmont and the El Camino Real-Chatsworth winner to Monday.
