Johns-Richardson Leads Troy to Tournament Title

Tournament MVP Veronica Johns-Richardson had 23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals and Troy forced 32 turnovers to defeat Anaheim, 75-26, in the championship game of the Garden Grove girls’ basketball tournament Saturday.
Troy forced 19 turnovers in the first half and outscored Anaheim, 20-0, in the second quarter and 21-3 in the third.
Katie Hardeman, an all-tournament selection, scored 16 points and had six rebounds and six steals for Troy (15-0).
Yuri Alvarado scored seven points to lead Anaheim.
In other Garden Grove tournament games:
Garden Grove 30, Bolsa Grande 24--Gloria Rojas scored 16 points and Jill Nakagawa had nine for Garden Grove (5-9), which forced six turnovers in the fourth quarter to shut out Bolsa Grande, 9-0.
In the Cavalier Classic:
Canyon 58, Sonora 54--Tournament MVP Meghan O’Neill had 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead Canyon (12-3) in the championship game.
Lillian Hewko scored 16 to lead Sonora.
El Modena 43, Santiago 30--Valerie Matweeff had 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead El Modena (5-7) to the third-place win.
Corona del Mar 58, Fullerton 21--Charlene Quon scored 18 points and Jennifer Dickson scored 16 and had 10 rebounds to lead Corona del Mar to a fifth-place finish. The Sea Queens (8-7) went on a 19-5 run in the third quarter and held Fullerton to three points in the fourth.
In the Chino Hills Ayala girls’ basketball tournament:
Brea Olinda 71, Ventura 35--Chelsea Trotter had 12 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals, and four assists to lead Brea Olinda (11-3) in the third-place game.
Lindsey Davidson had 14 points and six assists.
Rialto Eisenhower 55, Foothill 51--Chavaughn Brown scored 17 points and had 17 rebounds and Kristen Mann scored 16 points to lead Foothill (11-3) in the seventh-place game.
In the Savanna Lady Rebels basketball tournament:
Calvary Chapel 59, Compton 47--Tournament MVP Cathy Joens scored 16 points and had six assists and five rebounds to lead Calvary Chapel to a championship victory. Marcene Guerrero scored 15 points and had seven assists for the Eagles (9-5). Compton took a 42-41 lead late in the third, but Calvary Chapel held the lead the rest of the way, outscoring Compton, 23-16, in the fourth.
Huntington Hills (Canada) 46, Cypress 42--Michelle Mitchell scored 14 points to lead Cypress (9-5), which lost the third-place game. Remy Hitoli had 11 points and six assists for Cypress.
La Habra 45, Downey 34--Diana Fukushima, who made the all-tournament team, had 20 points and six assists to lead the Highlanders (7-8).
