From Staff Reports

Pierce College football Coach Bill Norton submitted a letter of resignation Wednesday to school President Bing Inocencio.

Inocencio said he will not accept the resignation officially until he speaks with Athletic Director Bob Lyons, but added, “You can’t force people to do things they don’t want to do.”

Norton, 51, has been Pierce’s coach for eight years. He was chosen the Western State Conference Northern Division coach of the year last season even though the Brahmas finished 1-9.

The victory snapped a 31-game losing streak for Pierce.

Norton, who said he had no comment on his resignation until he talked with Lyons, has complained about lack of school support, about no full-time assistants and about no hot water in the locker room showers.

Inocencio said the school has no plans to discontinue football.
