A man accused of stabbing a good Samaritan who intervened in a domestic dispute was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said Monday.

The incident began at 11 p.m. Sunday in the 14000 block of Kittridge Street in Van Nuys, when Marvin Andrews, 38, was arguing with the mother of his 3-year-old child and turned violent, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles Police Department.

When a 36-year-old neighbor, whose name was not released, came to the woman’s aid, Andrews stabbed him several times in the face, police said.

The victim’s 21-year-old son tried to help his father and was stabbed in the back, police said.

Andrews tried to flee, police said, but security guards held him until police arrived.

The mother and child were unharmed. The man who came to the woman’s aid was treated for several stab wounds and released from a local hospital. His son refused medical treatment, police said.

Andrews was being held in Van Nuys Jail on $1-million bail.
