Ochoa Lends a Foot in Both Hart Scores Against Canyon

Jose Ochoa scored in the 85th minute and Hart High defeated Canyon, 2-1, in a Foothill League boys’ soccer game on Tuesday at Hart.

Ochoa’s goal came from 30 yards and found the bottom left corner of the net.

“It was the best shot I’ve seen all year by any high school kid,” Coach Ron Lindberg of Hart said. “It had some wicked twists and turns to it.”

Ochoa assisted on a goal by Jared Bazar in the 35th minute for Hart (8-2-4, 2-1 in league play).

Canyon (6-6-5, 1-1-1) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by James Stone in the first half.

Buena 3, Dos Pueblos 0--Chris Parkin scored in the second minute and Brad Workman had his ninth goal in a Channel League game at Buena.

Lani Kaluna notched his 11th shutout for Buena (12-2-3, 1-0-1).

Rio Mesa 4, Hueneme 0--David Cervantes scored his 13th and 14th goals, and Ivan Medina had his eighth to lift the Spartans (10-3-4, 4-1) in a Pacific League game at Hueneme (9-6-2, 2-3).

Paraclete 3, Pasadena Marshall 2--Brad Griffiths scored the winning goal in the 55th minute of an Alpha League opener.

The Spirits are 7-7-1.

Viewpoint 2, First Lutheran 0--Shane Betts and Paul Lowe each scored goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, lifting the Patriots (4-6) in a nonleague game at First Lutheran.

Milken 4, Windward 1--Ronen Navah and Adam Bergman each scored two goals and Evan Sagal had two assists for carrying Milken (8-0-1, 6-0) in a Liberty League game.

GIRLS’ GAMES

Canyon 3, Hart 1--Jaime Rendich scored on a free kick from 35 yards in the 67th minute, snapping a 1-1 tie and putting the Cowboys ahead for good in a Foothill League match at Hart.

Gentry Green added an insurance goal two minutes later and Vicky Duffy had two assists for the Cowboys (9-2, 3-0).

Valencia 1, Burroughs 0--Heather Zubis took a corner kick from Christine La Salle and scored on a header 15 minutes into the second half in a Foothill League match at Burroughs.

Saugus 2, Burbank 0--Sarah Carlson and Lindsay Moser each scored second-half goals in a Foothill League game at Saugus (4-2-3, 2-0).

Buena 2, Dos Pueblos 0--Center Kelly Nash and forward Natalie Sanderson assisted on each other’s goals in a Channel League game at Dos Pueblos.

Buena is 13-2-1, 2-0.

Ventura 2, Santa Barbara 1--Alicia Coenen scored two second-half goals to erase a 1-0 deficit and lift the Cougars (10-7-2, 1-0-1) in a Channel League game at Santa Barbara.

Monroe 4, Reseda 1--Liz Nemeth scored in the fourth and the 21st minute for the Vikings (4-3, 1-0) in a Mid-Valley League game at Reseda.

North Hollywood 3, Van Nuys 1--Tanea Murphy broke a 1-1 tie in the 60th minute of a Mid-Valley League game at Van Nuys.
