Haney Scores 37, Villa Park Tops Foothill

Villa Park guard Justin Haney scored 37 points and led the host Spartans to an 81-67 Century League boys’ basketball victory over Foothill Tuesday night.

Haney also had five assists and made three three-point baskets.

Villa Park (12-7, 2-0) led by eight at halftime, and pulled away in the second half, thanks in part to Haney, Matt MacGinnis (11 points) and Adam Keith (eight rebounds).

Drew Buford led Foothill (14-4, 1-1) with 19 points. Alex Rasmussen had 15 for the Knights.

In another Century League game:

Orange 50, El Modena 45--Steven Miller scored 23 points and had 12 rebounds to lead host Orange (9-8, 1-1), which outscored El Modena, 21-16, in the fourth quarter. Chad Brandell led El Modena (5-15, 0-2) with 18 points.

In the Express League:

Heritage Christian 55, Norwalk Pioneer Baptist 54--Todd Warner hit two free throws with three seconds left to secure the victory for Heritage Christian (8-8, 1-0). He finished with 18 points including four three-pointers.

In the Olympic League:

Cerritos Valley Christian 63, Whittier Christian 53--Brian Kuiper had 21 and teammate Eric Streelman added 20 for Valley Christian (14-2, 2-0). Matt Martinez contributed 20 points for Whittier.

In Century League girls’ water polo:

Canyon 16, Orange 4--Jamie Hamilton had 15 saves for visiting Canyon (12-3, 1-0), which led, 9-1, at halftime. Orange is 0-1 in league.

Foothill 10, El Modena 5--Daylene Coberly of Foothill (5-3, 1-0) scored six goals in the game.

In Orange League girls’ water polo:

Savanna 14, Western 3--Sarah Anderson scored three goals and Rebecca Stark, Stephanie Simpson and Shana Lindsay had two each for Savanna (9-7, 1-0).

In Sea View League wrestling:

Irvine 34, No. 9 El Toro 30--Heavyweight Doug Noble gave Irvine (10-2, 2-0) the victory with a four-point major decision (14-5) over El Toro’s Paul Haneishi.
