As he’s done since his days with Count Basie, Joe Williams sings “Every Day I Have the Blues” with assertive abandon and a sense of triumph, all in deep, characteristically rich tones. The vocalist, who turned 80 last month, is out to prove he hasn’t lost his heart or his soul.

10pm: Pop Music

The residency has become a popular format for pop music in L.A. You’ve got Aimee Mann and Michael Penn every Tuesday at the Largo, and now you can add the Gigolo Aunts the next three Saturdays at the Martini Lounge. The Boston-based power-pop stalwarts will be gearing up for the release of a new album, “Minor Chords and Major Themes,” in February.

The UCLA Film and Television Archive’s Japanese children’s animation series, “Magical Boys and Girls,” continues with Isao Takahata’s “The Prince of the Sun” (1968), a curious amalgam of Japanese and Norse legends, and Yoshio Takeuchi’s 1997 “Jungle Emperor Leo,” a loose remake of Osamu Tezuka’s TV series “Kimba the White Lion.” Both films are in Japanese with English subtitles.

9:30am / Organ Music

The power of the mighty Wurlitzer has seduced many people into a lifelong love affair with these gigantic instruments. If you’re one, get your fill during the Wurlitzer Weekend, a four-concert tour organized by the Los Angeles and Orange County Theatre Organ Societies. The Orpheum Theatre in downtown L.A., the San Gabriel Civic Auditorium, the Seal Beach Bay Theatre and Fullerton’s Plummer Auditorium are on the tour, and a select number of ticket-holders will also be able to attend a private tour of San Sylmar, the museum collection of J.B. Nethercutt, which includes a recently restored 73-rank Wurlitzer.

Joseph Cashore’s expertly crafted “Cashore Marionettes,” notable for their detailed articulation, come to life in remarkable ways as they enact sensitive and touching slice-of-life stories. They will appear at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

11am: Art

“Rauschenberg in Transparency,” the first exhibition to focus solely on the transparent works of the influential artist, opens Saturday at the Orange County Museum of Art. Composed of 15 works made since the early 1960s, the exhibition will feature constantly changing works made from Plexiglas and Mylar, text, found and artist-generated photographs. These works shift as the manipulation of the transparent layers creates alternating works of art with alternating meaning.
