Goals by Mularkey, Mireles Lead No. 2 Los Alamitos

Nicole Mularkey scored in the 10th minute on a pass from Kristi Bissonnette, and Lisa Mireles scored eight minutes later from 25 yards out to give second-ranked Los Alamitos a 2-0 victory over 10th-ranked Esperanza in a Sunset League girls’ soccer game Thursday at Los Alamitos.

Ashley DeAlejandro made three saves for her 15th shutout, two shy of the school record set by Jenny Wilemse during the 1995-96 season.

Los Alamitos improved to 16-1-3, 5-0-1. Erin Winter made seven saves for Esperanza (9-7-5, 3-3).

In other Sunset League games:

Edison 3, Marina 2 (OT)--Sophomore Katie Shield scored in the 96th minute off a pass from Brooke Thulin. Marina’s Chelsea Davis scored on a penalty kick late in the second half to force overtime. Edison is 14-4-2, 4-1-1.

In the Century League:

Canyon 3, Orange 0--Jamie Hacker, Bianca Berry and Chrystal Hewitt scored goals for Canyon. Kim Mallory had two assists for Canyon (11-6-3, 5-1).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 3, Cypress 1--After Gina McAskill scored Cypress’ only goal 10 minutes into the second half, senior Jenni Branam scored three goals to lead El Dorado (13-7-2, 6-1). Aundra Thompson made 11 saves for the Golden Hawks.

Katella 1, Century 0--Summer Vance scored for Katella in the 43rd minute off an assist from Mandy Watanabe. Century goaltender Lupe Martinez made 19 saves.

Loara 1, Kennedy 0--Freshman Lauren Lappin’s game-winner in the 78th minute was her 23rd goal of the season.

In the Golden West League:

Westminster 2, Santa Ana 1--Ruth Garcia scored a game-tying goal for Santa Ana with two minutes left in the first half, but Lacy Hauxhurst put Westminster (4-8-4, 2-2-2) ahead for good 30 seconds later with a goal.

Evangelina Garcia had 10 saves for Santa Ana (5-10, 2-3-1).

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 2, Brea 2--Kelly Nakagawa scored two goals in the second half for Brea (11-6-3, 4-1-1) to force the tie. Lorena Eglesias made 15 saves for Anaheim (6-6-2, 3-2-1).

Western 2, Savanna 1--Tiffany Chong scored the first goal of the game in the 38th minute to put Western (4-9-1, 2-4) ahead 1-0 at the half. Western’s goalkeeper Chavon Carlson made 10 saves. Elizabeth Avila had 11 saves for Savanna (2-12-2, 2-4).

In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 8 Aliso Niguel 2, Laguna Beach 0--Kim Devine scored on a breakaway in the first half for Aliso Niguel (10-2-4, 4-0-2). Laguna Beach is 10-4-3, 2-3-2.

Costa Mesa 3, Estancia 0--Erin Van Horn posted three saves in her sixth shutout of the season for Costa Mesa (8-8-2, 2-4).

Estancia is 7-10-1, 0-6.

Laguna Hills 1, University 1--Laguna Hills struck first with a goal from Melissa Pinkert, but Kaley Pickett scored before the half for University (7-5-7, 2-1-3).

Jamie Lautenschlager had 10 saves for Laguna Hills (4-0-2).
