AMERICAN LEGION PLAYOFF ROUNDUP

Valley Chatsworth 9, Newhall-Saugus Hart 4--Chad Redfern, Scott Sellz and Jeff Spector hit consecutive home runs in the first inning off Jamie Shields at Burroughs High to help keep Valley Chatsworth undefeated in the District 20 playoffs.

Redfern also hit a two-run home run in the second inning.

Sellz pitched a six-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and Shields struck out 10 in eight innings.

Van Nuys Notre Dame 16, Burbank Burroughs 0--Ryan Cowsill (4-2) allowed one hit and struck out nine while facing the minimum 15 batters in five innings for Van Nuys Notre Dame in a District 20 playoff elimination game at Birmingham.

Ryan Stonerock had two doubles and four RBIs for Van Nuys Notre Dame (25-3). Matt Cunningham hit a two-run homer in the seventh.

Jon McKenzie singled in the first inning and Tim Murphy singled in the seventh for the only hits by Burbank Burroughs (19-9).

Crespi 17, Palmdale 9--Brian Horwitz led off the game with a home run and hit a two-run homer in a six-run sixth to help Encino Crespi (18-10) remain alive in the District 20 playoffs.

Gino Murrietta and Art Ortiz hit home runs for Palmdale (19-9).

Ojai-Santa Paula 3, Ventura 1--Noah Lowry (9-1) pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Ojai-Santa Paula (23-5-1) in a District 16 best-of-three playoff opener at Ventura College.

Kenny Newville hit a sacrifice fly for Ventura (14-13).
