Lake Forest Man Dies in Car Crash
A 41-year-old Lake Forest man was killed in Irvine on Saturday when he lost control of his car, crashed into some trees and was thrown from his vehicle, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Kelley Gardiner.
Gardiner was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Corvette faster than 100 mph south on Sand Canyon Avenue, just north of Trabuco Road, when he crashed about 2:35 p.m., California Highway Patrol Sgt. Diane Hartz said.
For some reason, Gardiner suddenly braked hard, and the car swerved into some eucalyptus trees lining the highway, she said. The Corvette flipped over and ejected Gardiner, who suffered fatal head injuries, Hartz said.
