Shooting Leaves Man Dead, Teen Wounded
NORTH HOLLYWOOD — A 21-year-old Van Nuys man died and a teenager was wounded after a gunfight early Tuesday, according to Los Angeles police.
Officers from the LAPD’s North Hollywood Division responded to a “shots fired” call at 2:40 a.m. near Oxnard Street and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, but did not find anyone at the scene, said Officer Jason Lee, a Police Department spokesman.
Just before 4 a.m., police received phone calls from two Valley hospitals reporting that each had a gunshot victim, Lee said.
Albert Tamazian, 21, died during surgery at 6:30 a.m. from several gunshot wounds to the chest, he said.
The suspect in Tamazian’s shooting, who was under 18 and not identified by police, suffered a single gunshot to the chest and remains hospitalized, Lee said.
Moyses Akopyan, a friend of Tamazian, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of the juvenile who was arrested, Lee said. It was unclear whether Akopyan, whose age was not released, was suspected of shooting the juvenile in defense of Tamazian, Lee said.
