Camarillo def. Damien by forfeit--Damien chose to forfeit rather than play without two players who did not have birth certificates on file with American Legion officials, according to Coach Mike Valdez of Camarillo.

“It was kind of a lack of communication by the guys running it,” Valdez said. “They showed up at game time and said they didn’t have copies of birth certificates for two players, and the coach said he didn’t want to play without them because several scouts came to see those two.

“The coach has the option to play without them, and chose not to.”

The game went into the books as a 9-0 victory for Camarillo (21-7), although the teams played a seven-inning game that included the two ineligible players.

Nick Barroso hit a three-run double for Camarillo, which won the exhibition, 11-9.

“At first, we didn’t want to play, but the Legion officials made us play because they didn’t want us to have the unfair advantage of an extra rest day.” Valdez said.

In the District 16 17-and-under playoffs:

Thousand Oaks 12, Simi Valley Royal 0--Greg Simonetti allowed only a third-inning double in a game called due to the 10-run rule.

Simonetti truck out six to help Thousand Oaks (23-1) advance to the district championship game Sunday.
