Bark Park to Celebrate Grand Opening on Sunday

Canines will have a new place to run free once Calabasas’ first off-leash dog park opens to the public Sunday.
Grand opening festivities for Calabasas Bark Park are planned from 10 a.m. to noon at 4232 Las Virgenes Road, across from A.E. Wright Middle School.
Land for the one-acre park, situated at the base of a large hill, is being leased by the city of Calabasas from the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District for $1 a year.
The city spent about $25,000 to establish the park, which will cost about $400 a month to maintain, said Greg Johnson, community services director.
The park’s amenities include a drinking fountain with separate faucets for people and dogs, and a fenced area where young children can watch the dogs frolic from a safe distance.
Open from dawn until dusk, the park has several rules, such as three dogs maximum per person at one time, no female dogs in heat, no food inside the park and, of course, owners must clean up after their animals.
The park will operate on a self-policing basis with volunteers on hand to make sure rules are followed.
