ANGELS-DODGERS REPORT

Share

Angel shortstop Gary DiSarcina will have his injured left forearm X-rayed Wednesday and could begin a rehabilitation assignment soon after, possibly by the weekend.

“If this comes up clean, it’s ‘go get ‘em,’ ” DiSarcina said. “It it’s not, then we have to wait.”

DiSarcina has been out since Feb. 21 because of a broken arm.

“Every X-ray has been clean so far,” said General Manager Bill Bavasi, who then joked, “if the X-rays are in the morning, he might be playing somewhere that afternoon.”

DiSarcina might do his rehabilitation with triple-A Edmonton or double-A Erie (Pa.), which would be convenient, as the Angels make an East Coast swing to Toronto and New York June 15-20.

Either way, Manager Terry Collins can’t wait.

“That will be a huge plus,” Collins said “I don’t mean to take anything away from [shortstop] Andy Sheets. He’s done a tremendous job. But Gary DiSarcina is, in my opinion, one of the true leaders on this club.”

The Angels put catcher Charlie O’Brien, who suffered a partially torn ligament in his right foot Wednesday, on the 15-day disabled list and recalled outfielder Reggie Williams from Edmonton.
