Orange High boys’ Athletic Director Dave Zirkle announced his resignation Thursday, after 19 years in the position.
Zirkle, who also resigned his post as athletic director of Orange Unified School District, has taken a job as the vice principal in charge of athletics at Murrieta Valley High.
“It’s time for a change,” said Zirkle, 50. “I’ve been in Orange my whole life and this is a different opportunity going into administration. I’m looking forward to being part of an organization that expects to win and I think I’ll bring some stability to the coaching staff and give them some direction.”
Zirkle spent 45 years in the Orange school district, as a student, teacher, coach and athletic director. He was the district athletic director for 18 years.
“He is going to be greatly missed,” said Charlie Fisher, Orange girls’ athletic director. “He has brought the district high school athletic system to where it is today.”
