Lake Elsinore Snaps JetHawk Win Streak

Joseph Gangemi pitched a six-hitter and the Lake Elsinore Storm broke the Lancaster JetHawks’ two-game winning streak with a 7-5 victory Saturday night in a California League baseball game before 4,841 at the Hangar.

Greg Connors had two hits for Lancaster (22-47), including a home run, and drove in three runs.

Juan Rodriguez had three hits, including a triple, for Lake Elsinore (30-39).

Chris Walther drove in three runs with a double and a single for the Storm.

Deron Kirkreit (0-1) allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings of his first start for Lancaster, striking out three and walking none.

GOLF

* The Master’s College will field a men’s team for the first time during the next school year.

The team will be coached by Jim Lundstrom, the 1986 Los Angeles City golf tournament champion and a four-time most valuable player at Point Loma College from 1978-1982. He has been inducted into that school’s athletic hall of fame.

Lundstrom won the Southern California Public Links Championship in 1990 and 1995.

SPORTS CAMPS

* The 1999 Cal Lutheran softball camp, headed by Coach Jodi Eyraud, is scheduled for June 28-July 2.

A session for beginning- and intermediate-level players will run from 9 a.m.-noon, with another session for intermediate- and advanced-level players from 1-4 p.m.

Cost of each session is $125. For those wishing to attend both sessions, the fee is $160.

A specialized clinic for pitchers and catchers is available at a cost of $75.

* A series of seven one-week baseball camps are scheduled to take place at Valley College beginning Monday and running through the week of Aug. 2.

The camps will be conducted by Dan Schumacher, Valley assistant baseball coach. Cost is $145 per week.
