Corey Aynn Morgan, 8th grade:

“The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton (Puffin).

“This is an excellent story about the hardships of life in the late ‘60s. The characters and the problems they face are realistic and vivid. The story made me think about the problems that exist between groups of people and how that affects everyday life.”

“P.S. Longer Letter Later” by Paula Danziger and Ann M. Martin (Scholastic).

“This book is about two pen pals and how they deal with problems at school and at home. I liked this book because it’s all in letters and because I can relate to the problems that the characters have.”

Ashley Lynn Contreras, 5th grade:

“Little House on the Prairie” by Laura Ingalls Wilder (Buccaneer).

“I like this book a lot because it talks about a family in the old days, in the time of the pioneers. It’s a very interesting story about the way people lived then.”

Stephanie Beaird, 1st grade:

“Shy Charles” by Rosemary Wells (Puffin).

“I like this book because it is good. It is about a shy mouse who doesn’t say thank you or hello. But he saves the babysitter later on, and everyone thanks him. I can read it by myself.”
