Segura Chosen Best in Big Sky

Kendra Segura, a sophomore at Cal State Northridge, was selected Big Sky Conference women’s tennis player of the week for March 11-17.

Playing No. 2 singles, Segura notched victories over Brandy Cera of Cleveland State, Denise Fernandez of Idaho State and Elizabeth O’Donnell of Rutgers to help the Matadors win three of four matches last week.

Segura has won seven of her last eight matches.

FOOTBALL

Shaun Holiday, a linebacker at Moorpark College, has committed to Portland State.

Defensive back Eugene Jackson of Moorpark, a Camarillo High graduate, will attend Western New Mexico. Moorpark offensive linemen Ryan Wadkowski, of Santa Paula High, and Roger Neadeau, of Channel Island High, will play at San Jose State.

BASKETBALL

The first Antelope Valley all-star boys’ game is set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Antelope Valley College.

Blue and Gold teams of seniors from Antelope Valley, Highland, Littlerock, Palmdale, Mojave, Desert, Lancaster, Paraclete, Vasquez, Rosamond, Antelope Valley Christian, Lancaster Desert Christian and Lancaster Bethel Christian high schools will play in the game.

Proceeds will go toward youth sports programs and the establishment of academic scholarships in the Antelope Valley area.

A free youth basketball clinic will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Adult tickets are $3.

SOCCER

A camp sponsored by the West Valley Soccer League and directed by Marwan Ass’ad, former Cal State Northridge coach, is scheduled for March 29-April 2, April 5-9, and April 12-16.

The camps are for boys and girls 5-15. Sessions will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day.

The White Memorial Medical Center Charitable Foundation’s 10th annual benefit tournament is scheduled for March 29 at Woodland Hills Country Club.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the expansion of the Los Angeles hospital’s Child Care Learning Center.
