Los Amigos Ends Drought Against Garden Grove

Los Amigos’ softball team beat Garden Grove League rival Garden Grove, 5-2, Tuesday for the first time in 11 years.

The Lobos’ victory came after they rallied for four runs in the sixth inning. Angela Yorba had two RBIs and Lily Vo and Nancy Grajeda each had one for Los Amigos (8-2). The Argonauts are 2-3-1.

In other Garden Grove League games:

La Quinta 2, Santiago 0--Brenda Ibarra drove in one run and Amber Wolf had five stolen bases for host La Quinta (7-3, 1-0).

Pacifica 13, Bolsa Grande 0 (5 mercy)--Pacifica senior Jessica Soto pitched her first perfect game, getting 12 strikeouts on 54 pitches. She also went one for two with two runs scored and two RBIs. Heidi Lundblad had three RBIs for the Mariners. Angie Ortega went one for one with two runs scored and an RBI, and Malorie Lenn was two for two with a triple and two RBIs.

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 4, Calvary Chapel 1--Senior Celina Camarillo hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to lead Whittier Christian. Senior Anna Jones went two for three with a double and a triple for Calvary Chapel.

In nonleague softball:

Capistrano Valley 1, Fountain Valley 0--Amanda Garcia (2-0) was the winning pitcher for Capistrano Valley (8-3). Fountain Valley’s Natalie King (0-3) struck out 10 but gave up an unearned run in the sixth.

Colleen Burdick led off the fourth inning with a triple but couldn’t score for host Fountain Valley (2-5).

Estancia 10, Anaheim 0 (5, mercy)--Joanna Danner (7-2) struck out nine in a perfect game for host Estancia (7-2). Stefanie Cachola went two for three with a double and two RBIs and Debra Wyman went two for three with a homer and two RBIs.

Huntington Beach 3, Ocean View 2--Tiffany Brown struck out seven and hit back-to-back homers with Ashley Perkins in the third to give the Oilers (3-6) a 3-0 lead. Jackie Roblero had an RBI single in the first for visiting Huntington Beach. Ocean View scored two runs in the sixth.

Katella 9, Valencia 1--Melinda Cirafice homered with two on in Katella’s seven-run first inning. Angel Valdez went two for four with one RBI for the Knights (4-5). Valencia is 7-3.

Kennedy 1, Rosary 0--Senior Crystal Eubanks struck out a career-high 15 in a four-hitter for host Kennedy (4-3). Christin Mora reached base on an error and scored in the sixth inning.

Laguna Hills 2-8, Mission Viejo 0-0--Melissa Creeger pitched a three-hitter in the first game and Katie Oliver and Kim Bisera each had an RBI in the second game.

Liberty Christian 9, Laguna Beach 1--Danielle Mershon struck out seven in a no-hitter for host Liberty Christian (9-1).

The Minutemen scored seven runs in the sixth inning on three hits and three errors by Laguna Beach (3-5).

Santa Ana 9, Costa Mesa 6--Junior Davina Gonzalez hit a two-run triple in a five-run fifth inning for Costa Mesa (2-6).

Sunny Hills 1, Loara 0--Shannon Deutschman struck out nine in a one-hitter and Erin Jones scored on an error with two outs in the fifth inning. Jaimie LaFleur went two for three with a double for host Sunny Hills (4-3).
