Wright’s Future Is in Question

Before the start of the season, Lorenzen Wright’s agent, Robert Fayne, asked the Clippers to either sign his client to a six-year extension or trade him before the league’s March 11 deadline.

Wright is still a Clipper, meaning that he will become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. Wright said he would like to remain with the team but is leaving his options open.

“I’m a man of my word, I’m going to give the Clippers the first opportunity, but of course, I’m also going to shop around,” said Wright, who leads the team with an average of 8.6 rebounds but is scoring only seven points a game.

“It’s going to be a tough decision, but I’m going to concentrate on improving [until the end of the season] so that whoever gets me, they’ll have a player who is going to come into camp in shape and ready to go.”

Wright, selected seventh overall, is one of the few first-round draft picks from his class who has not signed an extension.

“I played with all the guys, 1-10 from the draft, and I’m pretty good friends with all of them,” Wright said. “I’m happy that all of those got signed. I know that my time will come.”

Troy Hudson, who signed a 10-day contract Tuesday, backed up Darrick Martin and had three rebounds and one assist but no points in five minutes of action.
