* Once in the shadow of Ruben Douglas at Bell-Jeff, Dennis transferred and established himself as one of the best guards in the City Section. He averaged 24.6 points for Cleveland.

Nana Gbewonyo / Kennedy

* Forward

* Gbewonyo excelled with aggressive rebounding, an attacking style on offense and an intimidating presence on defense. Among the region’s most improved players, averaging 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Kevin Krose / Burroughs

* 6-3, Senior

* Forward

* Krose ranked second in the Foothill League in scoring, averaging 16.8 points, while leading the Indians to their first league basketball title since 1990.

Russell Lakey / Harvard-Westlake

* 6-0, Junior

* Guard

* After struggling early while trying to adjust to point-guard duties, Lakey reinforced his reputation as one of the region’s top juniors. He averaged 16.6 points, four assists and 3.5 steals.

Eskias McDaniels / Valencia

* 6-5, Sr.

* Forward

* An overpowering inside player, McDaniels averaged 21.4 points and 11.5 rebounds, leading Foothill League players in both categories.

Devin Montgomery / Alemany

* 6-0, Senior

* Guard

* A transfer from San Fernando High, Montgomery averaged 21.5 points and helped Alemany tie Chaminade for the Mission League title and advance to a Division III-AA semifinal.

T.K. Reed / Sylmar

* 6-0, Senior

* Guard

* Few players were more respected by opposing coaches than Reed, who was both defensive stopper and playmaker. He averaged 9.6 points and 6.8 assists.

Jeremiah Turner / Sylmar

* 6-6, Senior

* Forward

* With long arms and excellent leaping ability, Turner was a powerful, intimidating player in the paint. He averaged 13.2 points and 9.7 rebounds for the Spartans.

James Morris and Adam Levitt / Cleveland High

* In their rookie season, Levitt and Morris guided Cleveland to a 10-0 record in the West Valley League, a 21-5 overall mark and a near-upset of top-seeded Fairfax in a City Championship quarterfinal.
