Cypress Dominates Ventura Tournament
Cypress completed an impressive two days of softball by beating Hancock, 11-1, in the title game of the Ventura tournament Sunday.
The Chargers outscored seven opponents, 48-6, in the tournament.
Sophomore Melissa Beck had two home runs Sunday to set the college’s career mark at 12 for Cypress (36-5).
Beck had six home runs in 1997 then missed last season because of a knee injury.
Ro Lutz had a two-run triple during a 10-run third inning in the victory over Hancock.
Cypress’ Heidi Lockwood also had two hits and scored two runs against Hancock.
Cypress, ranked first in Southern California, beat second-ranked Saddleback, 7-1, in a semifinal game.
Cypress scored four times in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead and scored two more in the sixth.
Saddleback reached the semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Long Beach in which Tara Kroener gave up only an infield single and also hit a three-run homer. It was her second home run of the season.
