Corapci Drives In 5, Leads Canyon’s Rout of Villa Park

Jason Corapci drove in five runs Tuesday, leading Canyon to a 15-2 victory over Century League-rival Villa Park. Corapci moved into the county lead with 38 RBIs this season.

Corapci had three hits, including two home runs and a double, for No. 10 Canyon (19-6, 11-3). Sean McDermott had two hits, including a home run and three RBIs for host Canyon, which moved into a first-place tie with Foothill and Villa Park (15-9, 11-3). Canyon and Villa Park meet again Thursday.

In the Academy League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Downey Calvary Chapel 1--Capistrano Valley Christian (16-4, 9-0) clinched the league title for the first time in the school’s 26-year history.

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 3, La Habra 1--Brett Smith (6-5) pitched a four-hitter, had two RBIs and hit a home run for the Raiders (12-12, 8-6), who will finish third in league. La Habra (18-6, 11-3) is tied for first with Sunny Hills.

Sunny Hills 7, Troy 2--Mitch Martindale was three for four with two runs scored and Ryan Mansfield had two hits and two RBIs for the Lancers (18-7, 11-3). Troy is 9-16, 3-11.

In the Golden West League:

Tustin 1, Westminster 0--Chad Lloyd scored on Chris Hanson’s two-out double. Ivan Ramirez (6-0) struck out five and walked one in a two-hitter for host Tustin (15-9, 9-5), which finished in second place. Westminster is 13-9-1, 7-7.

In the Olympic League:

No. 6 Calvary Chapel 2, Ontario Christian 0--Ryan Connley hit a game-winning double in the sixth inning, driving in two runs for first-place Calvary Chapel (22-1, 10-0). Pastor Perez struck out nine for the Eagles.

In the Orange League:

Western 9, Valencia 3--Senior Bryan Clark struck out eight to pick up his eighth win of the season for Western (13-12, 10-4), which clinched a share of the league title.

In the Sea View league:

Corona del Mar 7, El Toro 4--Ty Harper’s grand slam in the second inning was the game-winner for visiting Corona del Mar (15-7, 10-4), which clinched at least a tie for the league title.

Irvine 5, Newport Harbor 3--Chad Hazlett (6-2) struck out three and Terry Parker had two hits with one RBI for visiting Irvine (15-9, 9-5). Newport Harbor is 10-13-1, 6-8.

In the Sunset League:

No. 9 Edison 3, Huntington Beach 1--Ryan Stemmer hit his second homer of the season and Bryce Popoff pitched six innings for Edison (17-8, 9-5).

Esperanza 7, Fountain Valley 2--Patrick Rooney hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead visiting Esperanza (16-8, 9-5), which is tied with Edison for second place.

No. 8 Los Alamitos 7, Marina 4--Senior pitcher Greg Schwenn won his fifth game, striking out five, for visiting Los Alamitos (16-9, 10-4), which clinched at least a tie for the league championship, its first since 1979. Host Marina dropped to 6-16, 3-11.
