La Quinta Rally Beats La Canada

La Quinta scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat La Canada, 7-5, in a Southern Section Division IV second-round baseball game Tuesday at La Canada.

Senior Monty Aldrup’s one-out, two-run triple put the top-seeded Aztecs (26-2) in front. Senior Ben Fredrickson then singled in Aldrup to complete the scoring. Senior right-hander Eric Seale (11-1) pitched 3 2/3 innings and picked up the victory for the Aztecs, who play Covina Gladstone in Thursdays’ quarterfinals.

In another Division IV game:

Corona del Mar 13, San Dimas 9 (8 innings)--The Sea Kings had seven consecutive hits and scored six runs in the eighth to take a 13-7 lead. Ty Harper led off the eighth with a single and went three for five with five RBIs. Brett Elliston (5-2) entered the game in the sixth and struck out five in 2 1/3 innings. Corona del Mar (17-8) plays West Hills Chaminade next.

In Division II:

Chino Don Lugo 4, Edison 3--Edison outfielder Phil Tripoli had two hits and drove in a run, and Glen Hedgpeth had a two-run double for Edison (19-9).

Riverside Poly 5, Katella 4--Jon Lorenzen, Carlos Pasillas and T.J. Jara had RBIs for host Katella (21-7) in the seventh inning, but Poly’s Tony Perrone, who entered the game in the sixth, ended the game with a strikeout.

Simi Valley Royal 9, Sunny Hills 8--Mike Bills had two hits and three RBIs for host Sunny Hills (20-8). Royal scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 9-6 lead.

In Division V:

Calvary Chapel 17, Rosamond 0--Senior second baseman Randy Blood had two hits, including a double and a grand slam for top-seeded Calvary Chapel (25-1-1). The Eagles will play Santa Monica.

In Division VI:

Simi Valley Grace Brethren 14, Heritage Christian 0--Tim Thompson and Shawn McClain combined on a no-hitter for the host Lancers (18-3). Heritage Christian finished 6-7.
