Cypress Women Top OCC in Volleyball

Heather Storey and Erika Williams each had 20 kills to help Cypress defeat host Orange Coast, 15-6, 11-15, 15-9, 15-8, in an Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball match Wednesday.

Cypress improved to 10-4, 7-2 in conference.

Orange Coast’s starting setter Missy Jamison suffered an ankle injury in the first game and did not return to the match. Beth Waterman had 19 kills and Susie Packard added 13 for the Pirates (9-8, 4-5).

In other conference matches:

Golden West 3, Santa Ana 0--Freshman middle blocker Grace Boyd had 11 kills, four blocks and four aces for host Golden West (16-0, 9-0), which won, 15-9, 15-3, 15-1.

The Rustlers, the six-time defending state champions, are top-ranked in the state and posted their 54th consecutive victory.

Santa Ana is 7-7, 2-7.

Irvine Valley 3, Saddleback 0--Lyndsi Johnson had 16 kills for Irvine Valley (12-2, 7-2), which won, 15-6, 15-9, 15-11. Sarah Phan added six blocks and eight kills and teammate Erica Wade had 42 assists and three aces for the Lasers.

Saddleback is 1-12, 1-8.

Riverside 3, Fullerton 2--Kellie Culver had eight kills for host Fullerton (6-8, 1-8), which lost, 15-8, 12-15, 9-15, 15-5, 15-9. Riverside is 8-5, 5-4.

In Western State Athletic Conference wrestling:

Bakersfield 42, Cypress 12--Cypress’ Aaron Cross pinned Bakersfield’s Dewayne Hogan in 37 seconds to win the heavyweight match. Cypress is 1-7, 0-3.
