Newport Harbor 3, Los Alamitos 0--April Ross led the top-seeded and two-time defending champions with 17 kills in a 15-6, 15-4, 15-6 victory. Newport Harbor (18-1) advanced to play San Gabriel in the second round Thursday.

Irvine 3, Alta Loma 0--Jody Carlson had 14 kills for third-seeded Irvine (11-4), which won, 15-10, 15-13, 15-12. Irvine next plays Long Beach Poly.

Esperanza 3, Redlands 0--Laura St. John had 11 kills and four aces for fourth-seeded Esperanza (16-1), which won, 15-3, 15-6, 15-2. Esperanza will play Murrieta Valley.
