Ryan Fuqua rushed for 358 yards and five touchdowns and also threw for a touchdown to lead Ontario Christian to a 54-28 Olympic League victory over Brethren Christian Thursday night in Long Beach.
Brethren, which finished with a 3-7 record (1-4 in league), took a 6-0 first-quarter lead when Warrior quarterback Kyle Painter hit tight end Robert Higgins with a five-yard touchdown pass.
Then Fuqua took over. He scored on consecutive runs of 80 and 88 yards to give the Knights (5-5, 2-3) a 14-6 lead late in the second quarter.
After a Brethren punt, Fuqua hit flanker Todd Butler with a 53-yard touchdown pass on a halfback option to give the Warriors a 20-6 halftime lead.
After Fuqua scored again to give the Warriors a 27-6 lead, Painter hit receiver Dave Workman with a 69-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 27-12.
Brethren recovered a Fuqua fumble on the next possession and drove to the Knight 21, but a Painter pass intended for Workman was picked off by Fuqua.
On the next play, Fuqua scored on a spectacular 80-yard run, breaking several tackles on his way to the end zone.
Fuqua had 456 yards in total offense. Brethren’s Painter completed 20 of 43 passes for 330 yards with four touchdowns, but had two interceptions that ended drives.
