Crash Closes PCH for Hours in Huntington

Pacific Coast Highway was closed for nearly four hours Saturday evening after two cars collided head-on near Warner Avenue in Huntington Beach, police said.

A northbound Toyota Tercel veered into opposing traffic, colliding with a southbound Saturn shortly after 6 p.m. Both drivers had to be extracted using the jaws of life, said Sgt. Craig Junginger of the Huntington Beach Police Department.

Four people were injured in the crash. The southbound driver, a 25-year-old man, was airlifted to UCI Medical Center in Orange.

His passengers, a 25-year-old woman and a 3-year-old boy, were taken by ambulance to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. The northbound driver, a 30-year-old woman, was taken by ambulance to UCI Medical Center, according to fire officials. Police did not release their names.

The Huntington Beach Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Authority had 30 people on the scene, which was complicated by two simultaneous extractions, said Randy Babbitt, spokesman for the Huntington Beach Fire Department.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, Junginger added.
