Rewards Offered for Leads in Hit-and-Run

The LAPD has issued $25,000 rewards for information on two drivers involved in a hit-and-run accident that caused the death of 4-year-old Alejandro “Alex” Vazquez last month.

The fatal incident took place at Eastern Avenue when the boy stormed out of a birthday party and ran toward his mother, who was on the opposite side of the street. Alex was hit by a car traveling north, and the impact threw the boy into the southbound lane, where he was struck by a second car.

The first car never slowed down, Det. Michael Kaden said, and the driver of the second car stopped briefly, but left before police arrived. No charges would have been pressed against the drivers had they stopped and remained at the scene, said Kaden.

Kaden said the first car was a 1989-1991 white or silver Chevy Geo Prizm, which sustained damage to the grille, the left headlight and left front turn signal. There are conflicting descriptions about the second car, but some witnesses said it was a mid-size maroon station wagon, Kaden said. Anyone with information is asked to call Kaden at (213) 485-3111, or the central traffic division at (213) 485-3122.
