An unconscious woman with bruises on her face was left at Los Robles Regional Medical Center on Thursday, and authorities were investigating if she was the victim of a crime.

The woman, who is white and possibly in her early 60s, was not carrying identification and had not been identified by late Thursday.

The woman also suffered a brain injury that caused her to remain unconscious Thursday night, said Kris Carraway-Bowman, a hospital spokeswoman.

“She looks like she’s been battered,” Carraway-Bowman said.

Hospital and police accounts differ on how the woman arrived at the medical center.

According to authorities, an unidentified man carried the woman into the hospital’s main entrance shortly before 1 p.m. and told employees that she needed attention. He then left in a white vehicle resembling a Ford Bronco.

“The witnesses thought he was going to park the car but he took off,” Sheriff’s Senior Deputy Harold Hanley said.

Authorities did not get a description of the man or a license plate number.

Carraway-Bowman said the woman was left on the ground outside the hospital’s emergency room.
