Everly Helps Calabasas Reach Another Division III Final

Freshman Erin Everly won three sets to help top-seeded Calabasas High advance to the Southern Section Division IV girls’ tennis final for the second consecutive season with a 14-4 semifinal victory over Chaminade on Thursday at Northridge Tennis Club.

Everly, usually the Coyotes’ No. 1 player, has competed at No. 3 in the playoffs. She improved to 60-6 with victories of 6-1 over Kinsley Carnahan, 7-5 over Jessica Testwuide and 6-0 over Sabrina Hassan.

Calabasas (19-3), which has won five consecutive matches since a regular-season loss to San Marino, also got three-set sweeps from its Nos. 1 and 2 doubles teams. Brittany Bierman overcame a sore shoulder and Kathy Habuki played through the flu to post 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 victories at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 team of Andrea Leewong and Jackie Yano won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1.

Carnahan won two of three sets for Chaminade (15-4).

Calabasas, which lost to San Marino, 12-6, in the Division IV final last year, will play the Titans for the championship again at noon Monday at the Claremont Club in Claremont. San Marino defeated San Luis Obispo, 10-8, in the other semifinal.

Harvard-Westlake 14, Santa Margarita 4--Stephanie Berg won three sets at No. 1 singles and the Wolverines (18-2) advanced to the Division III final for second time in three seasons with a semifinal victory at Coto Valley Country Club in Coto de Caza.

Alexandra Maclennan also won all three of her sets at No. 3 singles, and Jessica Leck won two of three for Harvard-Westlake, which lost in the semifinals to Laguna Hills last year.

Harvard-Westlake faces defending champion Laguna Hills on Monday at the Claremont Club. Laguna Hills beat Palm Desert, 10-8, in the other semifinal.
