Opposing Sides Worked Together
Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park highs renewed their annual rivalry in football Nov. 12, but also the communities came together to support Newbury Park student-athlete Matt Emole, who was paralyzed in an automobile accident in August.
Thousand Oaks football boosters donated their portion of the 50-50 raffle ($422) to the Matt Emole Fund. The Newbury Park booster who won the raffle, Laurel Borton, donated half of her proceeds. Thousand Oaks allowed Newbury Park boosters to place donation cans throughout the stadium and sell Matt Emole car wash tickets, which raised an additional $455.
Through their kindness and caring for an injured student-friend-son, Thousand Oaks boosters assisted in raising more than $1,000 for someone they probably never met.
To Thousand Oaks High and the school’s boosters, from all of Newbury Park High, thank you for your kindness, generosity and support of Matt Emole.
