Mater Dei, Scheduled to Play at Alemany, Wants Site Changed

Mater Dei, seeded second in the Southern Section Division I football playoffs, will be on the road in the second round, but the Monarchs have appealed to the commissioner’s office to have the game site moved.

Mater Dei is scheduled to play at Mission Hills Alemany at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

“Their stadium only holds about 2,500, and we’ve appealed to the CIF,” said Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson. “We faxed a letter to them [Saturday].”

Rollinson said he expects between 3,000 and 4,000 to follow his team this week. “We played a quarterfinal game last year against [Sherman Oaks] Notre Dame and we filled our side and the overflow was on their side,” Rollinson said. “They had a tiny stadium.”

The section office will finalize sites and locations early this week.

Sites for Friday’s second-round playoff games for Orange County teams are:

Division I--Los Alamitos vs. Los Angeles Loyola at Glendale High School; Mater Dei at Mission Hills Alemany.

Division II--Diamond Bar at San Clemente.

Division VI--Irvine vs. Lakewood Mayfair at Bellflower HS; Loara at Tustin; La Mirada vs. Kennedy at Glover Stadium; Villa Park at Newport Harbor.

Division IX--La Verne Bonita vs. Troy at Fullerton HS; Valencia at San Dimas; Pacifica at Western; West Covina South Hills at Brea Olinda.

Division XI--Banning vs. Orange Lutheran, site TBA.
