Dirty Water Knows No Bounds
It is surprising that the comment by the young man who caught a steelhead trout in San Mateo Creek (“Unfortunately, they want to build pillars right in my spot”) could be misunderstood by the Transportation Corridor Agencies’ director of external affairs (Letters, Oct. 31). This professional executive hopes to discredit young Toby Shackelford by nit-picking about the latter’s word choice. Shackelford’s point, which I got right away, is that whether the toll road pillars are smack in the middle of his secret spot or 500 yards away, quality fish will not survive while auto exhaust is washing off the toll road into the San Mateo watershed. The fact is, if you dirty the water over there, you dirty it over here, too.
