Two firefighters were injured Tuesday while trying to put out a fire at the Oakview Apartments.

The blaze, which started after 10 a.m. in one of the units at 603 Hampshire Road, damaged at least two apartments and possibly four, according to fire officials.

No one was home in the apartment when the fire started, said Sandi Wells, spokeswoman for the Ventura County Fire Department. The building’s other residents and their pets were unharmed, she said.

Firefighters from the Ventura and Los Angeles county fire departments responded to 911 calls received about 10:40. The fire spread to other units by way of a common attic.

Firefighter Yong Lee, 30, fell eight feet through a hole in the roof made to release heat from the fire so firefighters could enter the unit. He sustained bruises to a knee and a shoulder. Firefighter Richard Bolinger, 43, experienced a first-degree neck burn, second-degree burns on his right hand and smoke inhalation.

Both firefighters were treated at Los Robles Hospital and released, said Kris Carraway-Bowman, a hospital spokeswoman.

Investigators were still inspecting the building late Tuesday afternoon and had not yet determined the fire’s cause, Wells said.
