Calvary Chapel overcame early offensive struggles to post its highest point total of the season in a 32-7 victory over Los Angeles Ribet Academy Thursday at Santa Ana Stadium.

The Eagles (1-3), who scored just 26 points in their first three games, led 19-7 early in the third quarter despite having only 57 yards in total offense to that point.

Calvary Chapel scored first with the only sustained drive of the night by either team, a 75-yard march capped by fullback Brian Cripe’s 14-yard touchdown run.

Ribet (1-2) responded with a 65-yard touchdown pass from Jason Tubbs to Joe Hines to take a 7-6 lead, but Andy Avila returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards to give Calvary Chapel the lead for good.

Blake West increased the lead to 19-7 on the opening play of the second half, returning an interception 29 yards for a score.

With the pressure off its shoulders, the Eagle offense came to life. Cripe broke loose for an 80-yard gain to set up a 3-yard scoring run by Justin Calas, and quarterback Luke Garner closed the scoring with a 6-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

Calvary Chapel outgained the Fighting Frogs, 240 yards to 223. Cripe finished with 122 yards on five carries and Avila added 56 yards on the ground.
