JC FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Ventura Unable to Stay With Moorpark

Moorpark College won the battle of Ventura County in resounding fashion, rolling up 559 yards in a 58-33 victory over Ventura in a Western State Conference Northern Division game Saturday night at Moorpark.

Ventura (3-1, 1-1 in division play) is ranked No. 7 in the state, but it was Moorpark (2-2, 2-0) that dominated from the start behind quarterback Farhaad Azimi.

Azimi scrambled 34 yards for a touchdown on Moorpark’s first possession. He finished with 103 yards rushing and three touchdowns in 11 carries, and completed 11 of 17 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns.

Azimi also scored on runs of five and 78 yards, and threw touchdown passes of 64 yards to Nikolas Lewis, and 14 and 26 yards to Shayne Sobel.

Sobel had four catches for 83 yards.

The Raiders had 304 yards rushing, led by Bryant Phipps with 106 yards and a touchdown in 29 carries.

Ventura’s Travis Rogers, the leading rusher in the conference, finished with 130 yards and a touchdown in 21 carries.
